What do I wear to a family photoshoot?
There’s an overwhelming amount of advice and styling guides available all over the internet. And don’t even get me started on Pinterest!
I’m not going to fluff around it, let’s get right into it! So what do you wear to a family photoshoot?
Stay true to yourselves
If you are a shorts and t-shirt kind of crew then there is NOTHING wrong with showing up to your photoshoot in shorts and t-shirt. I always say be yourselves but spice it up!
Most important point here is simply this: long, flowy dresses are truly stunning but it is not for everyone and not everyone has to wear one!
However, if you do love dresses, head over to MamaRentals and have a look at her sets. They are beautiful and there are gorgeous options for kiddies too!

Wear something comfortable
Wear something you are comfortable in whatever that may look like to you. There is nothing worse than squeezing in to clothes that no longer fits or gets us feeling uncomfortable or awkward while moving through the session.
My sessions are very much based on play, movement and fun. Especially if there are young kids involved. So please dress yourself with this in mind.
Dress for your season in life
What I mean by this is simply, if you are breastfeeding: wear something breastfeeding friendly. If your kids are motivated by snacks and will need these during the session, choose a different colour than white.
Don’t be afraid of colour
We all know that the neutrals are big winners when it comes to timeless and long lasting images. However, colour is FUN! It speaks volumes of who you are and it tells a story that browns and beiges cannot. Just be mindful members of the family do not mix colours that clash! I am always available for styling feedback should you need it.
Don’t forget the shoes
Most of the time we will kick shoes off and pop our feet in the sand. However, different seasons have different needs. In winter the sand can be unforgivingly cold and it is important you include your kicks in your styling choices. A beautiful outfit with your half wrecked thongs is and never will be a nice combo!
Accessories makes you, you
Earrings, hats, family heirloom jewellery etc. It all captures who you are and what you enjoy wearing right now in your life. Don’t be afraid to bring some accessories that we can include throughout the session!
There is so much to say for styling and I think it is beautiful to take time out of your day to do your hair, pop some lippy on and dress in something that makes you feel a little extra spicy.
However, the most important is that you get in the frame. If it all feels too overwhelming, simply send me an email or book in a phone consultation HERE and we can walk through it together!
